Airpure "Mini Me" Candles

Now I have to share this little gem with you. I was browsing through Home & Bargain today when I come across these cute little jar candles, I only really bought them because they looked cute but they were an absolute bargain because they smell amazing too!!

They are a brand called "AirPure" which I'm not too familiar with (which I will be familiarising myself with from now on) and it's a range called Mini Me which come in a wide variety of scents.

These palm-sized jar candles cost 39p and they had a few "flavours". I went for Cinnamon Spice and French Vanilla. The smell is amazing, it's not too subtle and it's not overbearing. We burnt the Cinnamon Spice ones and they definitely made us feel Christmassy.

These bad boys have up to 8 hours burning time, we had them burning for about 5 hours before we blew them out and they still looked like they had quite a bit of life left in them. The other scent we've got is French Vanilla which does smell amazing, like a cake.

UPDATE: I've started burning the French Vanilla and just the one teeny candle creates so much aroma. It smells like Creme Brulee when it's burning. Perfect for those who love the smell of cakes baking or fresh cookies.

Is this a brand you're familiar with? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below and any other candle recommendations.

A Book Review: Divergent

Now this is completely new territory for myself. I've never done a book review before but I felt like I needed to share this.

Last book I read before Divergent was The Hunger Games: Mockingjay and I was a bit hesitant to read this because I was so loyal to The Hunger Games Series. But I was going on holiday and I knew I needed a book to tide me over whilst I sat by the pool. I seen this was on offer in Asda for 2 for £5 so I bought this along with another book. It's really safe to say I loved it and here's why.

The main story is about a girl called Beatrice Prior who lives in a post-war dystopian type America where to keep the peace the population have been split into five factions (groups) and each faction has different traits and when a person is 16 there is a picking ceremony every year and they get to choose which faction they belong to. The factions and traits are below:

  • Abnegation - Honour Selflessness
  • Erudite - Honour Knowledge and Intelligence
  • Amity - Honour Peace
  • Candor - Honour Truth and Honesty
  • Dauntless - Honour Bravery
Beatrice is Abnegation born, a faction to which she feels like she does not fit in and finds it difficult at times to conform to the Abnegation rules. Before the picking ceremony there is a test which is meant to determine which faction you belong to. As suspected Beatrice's results are inconclusive which means one thing, she's what they call a Divergent, which is not a good thing when she lives in a society where each faction conforms to different rules. She is told to keep this result private.

Bored with Abnegation during the picking ceremony Beatrice is still unsure about her future. In a moment of thought she chooses what most consider the most dangerous faction, Dauntless, leaving her family and Abnegation behind.

When Beatrice arrives at Dauntless she decides she wants to try and belong, changing her mind track and also her name and appearance going as "Tris". In Dauntless she is trained by Dauntless trainer Four, who is quite the mystery to Tris. She is set a series of tasks and challenges which push her to the limit.

Does she belong in Dauntless? You'll have to read to find out.

I loved this book so much. I was pretty much hooked from the start and I found I couldn't put it down when I was on holiday. I really love books with a strong female lead and this one was just perfect because not only is Tris a YA Heroine but she's confused and conflicted like I know I have been in my life and she never lets it get her down in the whole book.

When I had finished this book I was so sad because it was the middle of my holiday and I had nothing else to read. I kept going into Asda hoping they'd get the second book Insurgent in and it was always out of stock! I went to The Works Outlet in Cheshire Oaks and they had the 3 book set there for £7.99 so I just bought the whole set and I am completely enthralled in the story.

I have told my friends about this and my pal Charlotte quickly became obsessed like myself and she's loving the series. I also love the film and think Shailene Woodley has done Tris justice. I do advise you though, please do read the book before watching the film.

So there's my first EVER book review. I hope you've enjoyed it and I haven't given too much away and it has made you want to go out and buy the book. It is available in Asda and Tesco and Amazon and all places like that.

Black Friday Madness

I just don't get it. Now I understand a good few things in this world like Red means stop and Green means go, but I can't understand the madness that is Black Friday.

I'm not going to say I haven't been succumbed to the deals of Black Friday, I have. I got some Christmas presents that I actually knew I wanted to get and I would have got them full price anyway but I got a deal. What I really don't get is people going stark bonkers crazy over things they never intended to buy until they saw it was 30% off. I've seen videos and vines of grown men ramming trolleys into other adults to pick up tellys, women screaming at each other over the last George Foreman Grill.

I got a Chromecast with 30% off (I'm still not 100% on what this even does) and a PS4 controller £15 cheaper than RRP, so I'm happy with the deals I got but can't believe the fuss it took me to get them. I also got a pair of K Swiss Trainers from Amazon's lead up to Black Friday Lightning Deals got them for £19.99 with only 10 mins left on the deal, I was pretty lucky with that one!

Don't get me wrong, I love a bargain, I live to shop, it's my favourite past time but I wouldn't go to the shops and belt people out of the way to get what I want.  What really does make me laugh though is that Black Friday is traditionally an American custom and they are worse than us, they spend the Thursday giving thanks for all they have got and on Friday that "thanks" just sort of gets forgotten and they turn into bargain wanting monsters. I think this is the way Britain's going.

I want to put this out there who thinks if Black Friday is going to become a regular thing over here then we should get the day before off too to eat loads of food and get ready for the sales! Who's with me?

But I know that even some of you are truly embracing Black Friday and as a treat here are some discount codes from some fashion retailers (courtesy of Hot Deals UK):

Welcome to Wonderland

Hi, I'm Kate. This is going to be my first proper attempt at a solo blog, I am also part of a group beauty blog called The Beauty Hot Squad which is focused mainly on Beauty (well, obvs). But, I've decided to take things in my own hands and talk about all the things that interest me which is why this blog won't fit into one particular category because I want it to be about many different topics; life, beauty, books, movies, travel, technology. I suppose before I start I should let you get to know me a little more.

Name:  Kate Hurn
Age: 24
Location: Liverpool

I work in a Call Centre in Bootle. I do like my job most of the time and get to speak to some really interesting people. My motto in life is "Go big or go home, don't do things by halves". Which is why I believe I have such an addictive personality. I have a few obsessions in my life one of them being Disney, I currently own every single Disney Animated Classic to date a long with a few collectibles. I'm obsessed with America and all things American, my favourite place in America has to be Vegas. I love to eat, especially Mexican Food with my fave being Chicken Quesadillas. Like any girl, I love to shop. My favourite recent purchase has to be my new Ugg Boots. I live at home with my Mum, Dad and my 2 sisters Kelly and Sarah. We are a really close family and spend a hell of a lot of time together. I have a boyfriend called Lee who is also my main travelling companion and over the last 6 and a half years we have visited many different places. My next adventure in life is next year when I go back to Florida after 8 years, I'm sooo excited.

That's it for now really. Keep an eye out for my first post very soon!
